What does the world eat? A new National Geographic infographic compares the diets of various countries around the world, something that can be useful for students learning about foreign cultures.

In the US, the average person consumes over 3,600 calories per day, with meat consumption of around 400 grams daily, mostly from beef and chicken. The top three sources of calories are sugars and fats, grains, and dairy and eggs.

In Japan, the average person consumes over 2,700 calories per day, with meat consumption of around 300 grams daily, mostly from seafood. The top three sources of calories are grains, sugars and fats, and meats.
