Most new parents believe it is important to spend time playing and reading to their babies.

But new research shows that it is also very important to talk to them. No matter how boring it seems, or how little they understand, talking in a one-sided conversation is more effective than reading for cognitive development.

The researchers also stated that it is probably easier to talk to the baby than schedule time to read, although both are very important.
