What were the origins of some of our most famous English fairy tales? Were they legends, or true history turned to fantasy?

Actually, they were some of both. Many stories, such as Cinderella, came from historical events, but were turned first into stories for adults by Charles Perrault, then into children’s fantasies by the Grimm brothers.
