How to Understand World Cultures

The Lewis Model is a tool for understanding all the cultures of a world.

Basically, there are three types of cultures.

  • Linear: more logical and ordered
  • Multi: more emotional and present-focused
  • Reactive: more courteous and respectful

Cultures do not change significantly over time, and they seem to be somewhat regionally related.

Asians are more reactive, with cultures based on respect and listening. Northern Europeans and Americans tend to be more forward-thinking and organized. Southern and Eastern Europeans and Africans work for experiences and multiple goals.
